From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sons of the West is the official anthem of the Western Bulldogs in the Australian Football League.
To the tune of "Sons of the Sea".
[edit] Lyrics
Sons of the West Red, white and blue We come out snarling Bulldogs through and through Bulldogs bite and bulldogs roar We give our very best But you can't beat the boys of the Bulldog breed We're the team of the mighty West
[edit] Meaning
It was previously known as "Sons of the Scray" when the Bulldogs were known as the Footscray Bulldogs pre-1997. The original first line was "Sons of the 'Scray," and instead of "Bulldogs through and through," it was "whether we win or lose." The line "we give our very best" was originally "Remember '54," and instead of singing "We're the team of the mighty west," Footscray supporters used to sing "who made old Footscray's name."
