Sonoma Pass

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sonoma Pass is a mountain pass in the Sierra Nevada mountains, starting at an elevation of approximately 6000 ft.

[edit] Geography

Sonoma Pass is located just north of Yosemite National Park. The pass itself is located on the eastern border of Stanislaus National Forest, near Stanislaus County. State route 108 is built through this pass, and the highway is closed during the winter as snowfall make travel treacherous, even with chains and snow tires. It is not advised for trucks or trailers to use this pass, in any season. Nearby passes are Carson Pass and Tioga Pass, both of which are also closed during the winter. The forests leading up to the pass are dominated by lodgepole pine and Mountain Hemlock.
