Sonny Dixon is the anchor of THE News at 6 on WTOC-TV in Savannah, Georgia, Dixon succeeded Doug Weathers, following Weathers' retirement in 2001.

He was born in Savannah in 1952. After college (Florida), he returned home where he worked as a radio DJ for WTOC AM-FM. Sonny owns a small piece of Savannah's broadcast history, as was he last person to "sign off" Savannah's first commercial radio station, WTOC AM-FM when the station was sold in the late 1970s.

Sonny was elected to serve west Chatham County in the Georgia House of Representatives in 1988 as a Democrat. While in the House he served on the Appropriations, Rules, Transportation, Industry, and Interstate Cooperation Committees. He chaired the State Highways Subcommittee on Transportation. He was also known as one of the state's more colorful political characters, dressing in a kilt and singing Celtic songs for his annual St. Patrick’s Day toast. After he resigned from public office in 1997 the Georgia Legislature voted to rename the intersection of State Route 21 and Jimmy Deloach Parkway in his honor. The area is now known as the Sonny Dixon Interchange.

After his stint in politics Sonny returned to broadcasting, at WTOC-TV. His staightforward, conversational delivery of news has made him a favorite on Savannah television. In 2001, the Georgia Historical Society presented him their annual History in the Media Award for the state of Georgia and he was named Savannah's favorite media personality four years in a row (2002-2005) by the readers of Savannah Magazine.

His special touch makes for memorable viewing. His"The WTOC Scrapbook" segments captured a bit of the nostalgia of Savannah during the 20th century. While "WTOC's Foundations of Faith" presented some of the rich history of prominent congregations and houses of worship from across the Coastal Empire of Georgia and the South Carolina Low Country. Cities and towns in southeastern Georgia and southern South Carolina are featured ith a series Sonny Dixon produces and presents periodically, titled "Your Hometown". The segments have become widely popular.

His take on New York City after 9/11 attacks; "Return to Ground Zero" garnered Sonny and WTOC Operations Director Craig Harney the 2002 regional Edward R. Murrow Award for broadcast excellence.
