Somewhere in the Night is a 1946 Joseph L. Mankiewicz-directed film noir. Mankiewicz's first directing effort from 20th Century Fox is a psychological thriller about a man who returns from the war with amnesia. The complicated storyline is typical of film noir. A man returns from World War II with amnesia. He tries to track down his old identity and ends up stumbling into a 3-year old murder mystery involving millions of dollars.

"Somewhere In The Night" is also the title of a popular ballad written by Richard Kerr and Will Jennings. The song charted for the duo of Batdorf & Rodney in 1975 and was a Top 20 hit for Helen Reddy that same year, but the best-known and most familiar version of the song for most listeners is Barry Manilow's version, which reached the U.S. Top Ten in early 1979. There was also a song called "Somewhere In The Night" performed by actor Scott Bakula on the TV show "Quantum Leap". The song has nothing to do with the movie.
