Something for Rockets

Something for Rockets is an American alternative rock band out of Los Angeles, California. Something For Rockets infuse hypnotic dance-floor beats with lush melody and poignant lyrics. Evocative, intelligent, and stylish, the result is a sound that is both vintage and future, dark and playful, and all anchored by the romantic sentiment of young and hopeless-self-distruction. The band is: Josh Eichenbaum on vocals and keyboards, Rami Perlman on guitar, Jacques Brautbar on Bass, and Barry Davis on drums. Its first album is titled Something for Rockets. Rami Perlman is the son of violinist Itzhak Perlman. Jacques Brautbar played guitar for the band Phantom Planet and joined Something For Rockets in the summer of 2005. The band is currently working on their sophomore record with former Blink 182 front man, Mark Hoppus.

History Rami Perlman, son of living-legend violin virtuoso Itzhak Perlman, was introduced to music at conception. With Vivaldi and Mozart perpetually soaring from his father’s study, and mainstream pop radio saturating his youthful ears (like any child of the 80s), Rami’s bevy of musical influences was forged.

Rami met Josh Eichenbaum while attending Brown University where Josh studied computer music and composition. During this time, Rami was writing straight-from-the-heart, bare-bones guitar songs, and the two recorded during their senior year. The two packed up for LA to begin working on what would become, Something For Rockets. Enter Barry Davis, ex-drummer of Boston’s Mori Stylez a fusion outfit with a local cult following. With a sensitive touch and keen feel for many different styles, Davis slid perfectly into Something For Rockets musical stew.

After completing a self-titles 3-song EP, SFR began generating a massive buzz in the LA-area, selling out The Echo, Knitting Factory in addition to playing a number of high profile gigs for Friendster and most recently at the LACMA, where the boys played for over two thousand people. They were also showcased by BMI as the Band of the Month. LA radio began to take notice, particularly Steve Jones at Indie 103.1. Jonesy started pushing the single “Might as Well” on his hit show Jonesy’s Jukebox. Other stations followed stations such as KCRW and college favorite KXLU. The press followed, with a nationally syndicated piece in the LA Times, along with features in the LA Daly News, Campus Circle, and Heeb just to name a few.

The trio embarked on the task of recording a full-length album in the fall of 2003. Rami, Josh, and Barry wrote, recorded and produced their self titled debut, slaving away on nights and weekends for almost an entire year to create what will become known as one of the most exciting and anticipated debuts in recent history.
