Solntsevo District, Moscow

Solntsevo (Russian: Со́лнцево) is a district in Western Administrative Okrug of the Russian capital city of Moscow.
It originated in 1938 as a dacha settlement and was named after the Russian word for Sun: солнце (solntse). It used to be a separate town from 1971. Since May of 1984 it has been included into Moscow.
Solntsevo has given its name to a major organisation of organized crime, the Solntsevskaya bratva. The former prime minister Mikhail Kasyanov is a native of Solntsevo.
