Solenoglypha is a term that commonly refers to the group of venomous snakes that have tubular fangs positioned at the front of the jaw, namely the vipers. The word originates from Greek terms vaguely meaning 'pipe grooved'. These fangs work like hypodermic needles, allowing for direct injection of venom. Other types of fang and venom delivery include the opisthoglyphous and aglyphous systems of typical colubrid snake methods, as well as cobras which are proteroglyphous, or 'front grooved'.
