Softpress Systems is a software publisher with its headquarters in Oxford, England. The corporation was founded in 1993 to address the emerging needs of professional publishers and designers for cross-media authoring tools. Originally the developers of a print-publishing application called Uniqorn (pre-Mac OS X) which ended its development after Apple discontinued its QuickDraw GX component.
They proceeded to convert Uniqorn into what it is today, Freeway (currently version 4.3.1), a web authoring program exclusively for OS X. (Note that Freeway 3.5 is still supported for use with Mac OS 9). Unlike most of its competitors, Freeway is an HTML publisher and not an HTML editor. It specifically addresses the needs of those who prefer to design in similar ways to DTP applications, rather than work directly with code. Freeway4 Pro fully supports CSS and includes numerous inbuilt graphics options as well actions that extend and enhance its functionality.
Softpress Systems is managed by Richard Logan (Managing Director) and Alan Shouls (Technical Director). Other staff members include Vanessa Gregory, Dr Jeremy Hughes and Kevin Meaney (Senior Engineers), Anna Henderson (Head of Technical Support), Joe Billings (Technical Support), Catherine McSporran (Financial Controller), Linda Munro and Gillian Betterton (Sales).
