Sofia Essaïdi

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sofia Essaïdi is a Franco-Moroccan singer. She was born in Casablanca, Morocco on August 6, 1984. She recently moved to Paris to pursue her studies in economy and management at Université Paris-Dauphine (formerly Université Paris IX).

From August 30 to December 13, 2003, she participated in the show Star Academy's third season, becoming a semi-finalist. Many feel she should have won the show overall, but due to the French public's racism to her Moroccan background, she was denied the win over blond, white, and very French Elodie (Sofia was usually the teacher's choice for the #1 student each week).

From March 12 to August 7, 2004, she participated in the Star Academy tour, going to Tunisia and Morocco, and Papeete (on the island of Tahiti, in French Polynesia), where she celebrated her 20th birthday.
