Soda Lake

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Soda Lake is a playa lake at the terminus of the Mojave River in San Bernardino County, California, though it has standing water during wet periods and water can be found beneath the surface. The lake is in the middle of the Mojave Desert, and along with Silver Lake, is what remains of Lake Mojave, a large, perennial lake that existed during portions of the last ice age. The lake has no outlet and the evaporating water has left deposits of alkaline evaporites, such as sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate.
