[edit] Missing information

This is a decent article, but there's some missing information regarding Marianist groups in the rest of the world. It might be good to include that, since I know that the organization is not strictly US based, and the article currently reflects a bias towards that, but only due to the lack of information mentioned above. Perhaps some of that missing material is in French (or some other language). For the francophone Marianist web material, see:

I moved most of the U.S.-specific stuff to a "Marianists in the United States" section and added a "Marianists around the World" section. This is still very asymmetrical, of course; ideally, I guess, there should be a section for each continent that the Marianists work in.Hickoryhillster 01:08, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Title and Contents

I liked the article but have some doubts with regard to its title. Are not the Marianists, the "Company of Mary" (instead of the "Society of Mary")? As far as I know, the "Society of Mary" is one of the four branches of Marianists, but this issue is not completely clear elsewhere in the net and I might be wrong. An additional source of confusion is that the Marists are called the "Society of Mary", as well.

There is still some asymmetry in the article since most of the emphasis is placed on the Marianists in the U.S. It might be good to include the Marianist work in places such as Canada (they have an Archbishop, there, in Vancouver), Latin America, France and Spain. In the latter country the Marianist organization enjoys a high reputation for excellence in education. Eguirald 17:33, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

Although the Marianist Brothers and Priests are called la Compañía de María in Spanish, in English, "the Company of Mary" refers to a completely different order, also called the Montfort Missionaries. However, it's true that the Society of Mary (or "Marianist Brothers and Priests") are just one branch of the Marianist Family, along with the sisters and lay communities and secular institute, and members of the other branches can also be called Marianists.

There is already a disambiguation page for Society of Mary (disambiguation), pointing to Society of Mary (Marists), along with Society of Mary (Marianists) and Society of Mary (Anglican).

I definitely agree that the aricle is still asymmetrical; hopefully, interested Wikipedians will build it up one continent or country at a time.
