Talk:Social environment

[edit] Accuracy concerns
In common usage, I would actually take "the people and institutions with whom the person interacts" as the definition of this term. I would also add "traditions", "ideas" and perhaps "social artifacts" - recorded information seems like it should count as one aspect of social environment.
In sociology, it is often interesting to examine a particular subset of society, such as a group of local artists, or an educational institution, or a business group. This might be a term of art to describe that subset, but I more commonly see "milieu" used in that sense. That term redirects here, but is not explained in the article.
I'd really like to see some authoritative sources definiting these terms; I have a feeling there are probably multiple overlapping definitions.
