Founded in 1983, Sock Shop Limited, is the UK's leading specialist retailer offering a comprehensive selection of socks and hosiery. At the chains peak in the 1980s the Sock Shop had a total of 140 branches with 300 concessions.
Outlets range from airport terminals to high street locations, from train and underground stations to state-of-art shopping malls.
Sock Shop today includes a corporate network in the UK and franchised operations include Cyprus, Greece, Iceland, Lebanon, Jordan, Malta, Kuwait and Portugal.

Their online store, Sock Shop Online, was launched in late 2004.
In 2005 Sock Shop will launch the innovative repeat order system 'Sockscription'.

On the 25th January 2006 the Sock Shop went into administration for the third time in its history blaming factors including rents, stuctural costs and competition as reasons. Prior to administration the Sock Shop had declined from 75 to 13 stores. Retail Week Article
The Sock Shop had also fallen into administration in 1990 and 1996.

Sockshop is also a web-site dedicated to the high jinx of a group of young lads from Dunstable. Their web-site can be found here: sockshop. Their site is not related to the online Sockshop store, however provides good comedy value for those interested.
Sockshop.org started in 1998 by Adam Pazik, Ross Billington, Thomas Bradbury, Ceri Evans, Matthew Isaac, Matthew Morris, Jason Wallace & Richard Green. All members remain except Ceri & Richard, and new members have also been added to the "Sockshop Guild". Greg Rollings being the most famous, for his at-least fifty initiations to the group. Matthew Lindsell, Michael Pazik, Dave Hill, Matthew Bottom and Gareth are honorary guild members.
