SOCO International plc (LSE: SIA) is an international oil and gas exploration and production company, headquartered in London traded on the London Stock Exchange and a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index. It is currently valued by the market around £900m. The Company has continuing interests in Vietnam, Yemen, Thailand and the Republic of Congo with ongoing production operations in Yemen.

[edit] History - Pre-IPO
Soco was formed around 1991 to exploit international opportunities as a subsidiary of Snyder Oil Corporation of the USA. Ed Story ran operations as Vice-President International and director of Snyder Oil. Roger Cagle was its CFO. Story/Cagle had worked together for 15 years beforehand at Conquest, Superior and Exxon. Soco acquired interests in Russia and Mongolia.

Background: Block 16-1 and Block 9-2 are contiguous to the prolific Bach Ho and Rang Dong fields. Both blocks are on trend with several major Basement and Tertiary discoveries in the Cuu Long Basin. SOCO holds its interests through its 80% owned subsidiary SOCO Vietnam Ltd which holds a 25% working interest in Block 9-2 and a 28.5% working interest in Block 16-1. Block 9-2 is operated by the Hoan Vu Joint Operating Company and Block 16-1 is operated by the Hoang Long Joint Operating Company.
