The Snow Scouts are a fictional organization in the children's series, A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket. They appear in the tenth and eleventh books, The Slippery Slope and The Grim Grotto. They are mostly male and female school age children. Their pledge is the Alphabet Pledge.
Count Olaf captures most of the Snow Scouts at the end of The Slippery Slope. Quigley Quagmire is disguised as a member to reach Mount Fraught in secret during their annual ceremony, but departs the group before they are snared.

[edit] Known Members

- At least one Winnipeg child
- Quigley Quagmire
[edit] Pledge
The Snow Scouts also have a pledge called the "Snow Scout Alphabet Pledge:"
Snow Scouts are accommodating, basic, calm, darling, emblematic, frisky, grinning, human, innocent, jumping, kept, limited, meek, nap-loving, official, pretty, quarantined, recent, scheduled, tidy, understandable, victorious, wholesome, xylophone, young and zippered - every morning, every afternoon, every night and all day long!
After saying this pledge, the snow scouts make "a snowy sound." Klaus, Violet and, later on, Sunny, notice it is reasonably difficult to imagine how a person could be "calm" and "meek" at the same time as being "frisky" and "jumping", how they could avoid being "young" and "human" or why "xylophone" appeared in the list at all (Klaus, being well read, suggests xenial) but they were just glad to have gotten away from the Snow Gnats.
This ridiculously long pledge is a parody of the Boy Scout Law: "A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent."
[edit] Clothing
Their emblem is the snowflake which they wear upon their bright white uniforms with zippers and the words of the above pledge imprinted in pink letters on the front. At the top of each of their headbands, they have small plastic snowflakes sticking out in all directions and the word "Brr!" written in icy script. They also wear masks protecting them from the Snow Gnats, but also concealing their faces entirely.
[edit] Storyline
In the tenth book, The Slippery Slope, they are on the Snow Scout Hike to the top of Mount Fraught to celebrate False Spring. Seeking shelter from the Snow Gnats, the Baudelaires discover them in a cave half-way up the mountain, and leave them again that night up the Vertical Flame Diversion. When the Snow Scouts reach the top of the mountain, they are captured by Count Olaf, Esmé Squalor and their troupe in a large net and taken away. We see some of them later in the eleventh book, The Grim Grotto, where they were forced to work for Olaf on his submarine.
