Snapper (game)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Snapper is a game written for the BBC Micro and Electron and released by Acornsoft in about 1984, initially on tape. It was a faithful clone of the game Pac-Man. In the first release of the game the characters were the same as in Pac-Man, although legal requirements meant that in subsequent versions they were changed. The player's character became a round yellow face with very short legs wearing a green cowboy hat. The villains became skinny humanoids who also appeared to be wearing cowboy hats.

As in Pac-Man, bonus items such as fruit would sometimes appear in the centre of the screen. The highest-scoring bonus item was an acorn, a reference to the publishers.

The game's playability was excellent and it ran very smoothly, making it a deservedly popular game at the time. It was arguably the best Pac-Man clone for the Acorn computer platforms.
