Snap music

Snap, or as it is known in its area of origin "doin it" (as it is never referred to as Snap in the Atlanta area and much less in its area of origin, the westside), is a new subgenre of Rap music that has emerged from Atlanta, Georgia. The term "Snap" originates from a Vibe magazine article in which it was named this in order to classify it.^{[citation needed]} Tracks commonly consist plainly of a hi-hat, bass, snapping, a main groove, and a vocal track. Invented for use at clubs, it is unusually languid for normal dance music, with a slow tempo. There is some debate over the true origin of snap, with both rap outfits Dem Franchize Boyz and D4L and leading producer Mr. Collipark claiming themselves the creators.

There are five well known dances that can be performed to "snap" music. They are The Poole Palace, Walk it Out, Motocycle', the Snap Dance, and the latest dance craze out of Atlanta, The Roosevelt, or better known as "crankin' dat roosevelt". The snap dance is a very simple dance done to snap music. Different artists have different ways of instructing it, from Lil' Jon's "Snap Yo Fingers" description to Dem Franchize Boyz "Lean Wit it, Rock Wit it" instruction. Basically, the dance is the movement of the torso and arms with minimal footwork, followed by snapping and leaning back in time with the music. The Roosevelt is performed by placing your wrist in front of your waist parallel to your belt, and abruptly raising your arms up to your chest, while at the same time bending your knees forward in an Elvis like motion.
