Snap (physics)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Snap, in physics, is the fourth derivative of position (symbol x\,) with respect to time, the first, second and third derivatives being velocity, acceleration, and jerk respectively. In other words, snap is the rate of change of jerk.

There is at present no official term for this derivative, and it is also known as jounce. Following from "snap", the fifth and sixth derivatives are also sometimes humorously referred to as crackle and pop.
