Smynos

Smynos (Σμύνος) is a municipality in Laconia, Greece. Population 1,917 (2001). The seat of the municipality is in Agios Nikolaos. The most historic village of the municipality of Smynos is the mountanous village of Kastania. It has 2 towers, in which its inhabitants defended against the Turks. The village has 2 coffee shops and attracts tourists in the summer. Currently one family from Kastania has immigrated and is now living in the U.S. The Kapsalis family.
Trivia= Kastania is the favorite vacation spot of Tasos Kapsalis.
