Welcome aboard.
Avoiding controversial topics can be difficult, because it's hard to know ahead of time what someone will have a strong opinion about. Vicki Rosenzweig 17:06 31 May 2003 (UTC)
Hello, Smith03, I've replied to your query on my user page. The Anome 21:57 31 May 2003 (UTC)
Hi, Smith03. Were the Dayton Triangles from Dayton, Ohio or one of the other Daytons? Maybe you could link each of the team pages you're doing to the city, for example: Dayton, Ohio. Welcome aboard! -- Marj 03:27 4 Jun 2003 (UTC)
Hi, Smith. You've been contributing a lot of good articles. However, PLEASE use state names, and FULL names, not abbreviations. Thank you. -- Zoe
I did not block you. What may have happened is that one time in the past, I blocked someone, and that ISP address is similar to the one that your system was using when it said I was blocking you. Ask at Wikipedia:Village pump how this can be rectified. Kingturtle 18:33 24 Jun 2003 (UTC)
- Probably you blocked a rotating IP at e.g. AOL. The way to rectify it is to unblock the IP, since blocking AOL IPs does little to nothing against the vandal. Koyaanis Qatsi
Congratulations, you have just been made a sysop! You have volunteered for boring housekeeping activities which normal users sadly cannot participate in. Sysops basically can't do anything: They cannot delete pages arbitarily (only obvious junk like "jklasdfl,öasdf JOSH IS GAY"), they cannot protect pages in an edit war they are involved in, they cannot ban signed in users. What they can do is delete junk as it appears, ban anonymous vandals, remove pages that have been listed on Votes for deletion for more than a week, protect pages when asked to by other members, and help keep the few protected pages there are, among them the precious Main Page, up to date.
Note that almost everything you can do can be undone, so don't be too worried about making mistakes. You will find more information at Wikipedia:Administrators, please take a look before experimenting with your new powers. Drop me a message if there are any questions or if you want to stop being a sysop (could it be?). Have fun! --Eloquence 02:12 9 Jul 2003 (UTC)
That's an interesting question about when the Canadian end zones changed. I've found no firm information about it yet, but as I recall the CFL changed its end zones just before expanding to the States in 1993. Whether the universities already had 20-yard zones I don't know. The codes do vary. In London, Ontario, for example, the high schools play four downs for ten metres. I'll get back to you when I have some real information. Jfitzg
- Or when I don't. Haven't been able to find anything about the issue. The usual Canadian concern for history, I guess. I have found some stuff to add to Canadian football, though. I'll keep looking. Jfitzg
Hey - just so you know, when you add an item to the Selected Articles section on the Main Page you must take out the oldest item on that line - otherwise that line will spill over to the next one on 800x600 screens (this looks very ugly). Also, any item listed must be on the corresponding page. For example Bill Bright should have been listed at Recent deaths before being placed on the Main Page. See the guidelines at Wikipedia:Selected Articles on the Main Page. --mav 01:26 22 Jul 2003 (UTC)
Hey, it looks like I changed time zone before you got a chance to revert the Macedonia/FYROM "edit war". FYI. Sorry I got caught up in it. Time zone is now free for you to edit. Samw 16:49, 6 Aug 2003 (UTC)
- I have a question about that...how come those are all being reverted to FYROM, when FYROM just redirects to Republic of Macedonia anyway? (Presumably I missed some explanation somewhere.) Adam Bishop 17:03, 6 Aug 2003 (UTC)
Thank you! I had forgotten about it. :) - Hephaestos 20:50, 25 Aug 2003 (UTC)
OK cool. Actually that's a good name to change it to, just wonder why it's not on SWT or TSUS web pages yet. - Hephaestos 03:40, 27 Aug 2003 (UTC)
- Aha. That would explain why it's not there yet then. Thanks fellow Minnesotan! *grin* (I've only been here since 2000 btw, used to live in Austin, TX) - Hephaestos 03:47, 27 Aug 2003 (UTC)
- Definitely. If there were already an article written I'd say wait, but as it is there's really no point (I know I'm not going to write an article within a week :) - Hephaestos 03:53, 27 Aug 2003 (UTC)
User 80.213.6.250 is a repeatedly-banned vandal who has decided to stop logging in as User:Henrik. If you hadn't added content to his Talk page, I would have deleted it, as I intend to revert every article he ever writes. RickK 00:42, 31 Aug 2003 (UTC)
Please correct the Norway language page. I just don't want Henrik/Heine's fingerprints on any articles. RickK 01:16, 31 Aug 2003 (UTC)
Hi. I have no problem with creating such pages at Robert M. La Follette, Jr.]] from the Congressional bios, but you really should Wikify them and not leave them in an unwiki state. RickK 03:37, 31 Aug 2003 (UTC)
I reluctantly reverted the Ice hockey article to the previous version, because you replaced the link to the World Cup with a link to the IIHF world championships. They're not the same thing, and the IIHF world championship is in practice not open to all the world's best players (it's scheduled for the same time as the Stanley Cup). I say I reverted reluctantly because knowing your contributions I know you didn't make that change lightly, and a link to the IIHF championships is highly appropriate. Maybe I'll try to work them in a different way. Trontonian
- In the end there just seemed to be some confusion of the World Cup with the IIHF championships. I added a paragraph about the IIHF worlds, I also moved the target article so that the name is the same as the one the IIHF uses (they use the plural), and created some stubs for the World Cup of Hockey and Canada Cup using information from Ice hockey. Ya finally run out of Arkansans? :)
Dear Smith: Hi! Thanks for the clarification about the WNBA. I honestly had no idea, I supposed Phoenix was an Eastern team because, hey in sports that happens. Remember when the Cincinnati Reds were in the National League's west? lol...
Im sure you noticed the controversy going on about Asian names when you visited my page...ahhh..oh well.
Anyways, I wanted to say thanks and God bless you!
Sincerely yours, Antonio Wild Horse Martin
Abe Lincoln was called an ignorant baboon, so I guess Bush is in some pretty good company in that regard.Ark30inf 20:25, 27 Sep 2003 (UTC)
Re: List of nicknames for Wesley Clark and List of nicknames for Howard Dean. Which do you really want, a bunch of garbage lists on politician, or deletion of Nicknames of GWB? That issue isn't closed; Ark30inf will re-nominate it for deletion independently of Nicknames of Hillary, and this time, he'll have my support. (See my comments on User talk:Ark30inf.) Also, by not creating Lists of Nicknames of Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld (just to pick some names), you've left yourself open to charges of POV, just like the defenders of Nicknames of GWB. There is a way to fight this thing, but creating retaliatory articles in the main namespace isn't it. Please, please stay cool when the editing gets hot. -- Cyan 01:48, 2 Oct 2003 (UTC)
- This could be perceived as vandalism. Don't go the same way BuddhaInside did please. I deleted the above two "articles". Angela 01:52, Oct 2, 2003 (UTC)
To everyone and anyone First I am sorry if I got a little hot under collar, but I am disappointed that we have allowed one article to remain (as of now) and yet deleted a similar article on a different person. I believe both articles should be deleted and have been clear on that in the past. No I do not want a Dean or Clark list either, but there again, is the point ( As I see it ) we allow one we will have to allow all. I am not upset that that the list of Bill Clinton sex partners was deleted, however I am a bit surprise that one was deleted without the vfd. Since that one did contain factual comments and was written by ( i hope anywary) a respected contributor . I do believe (althougth would not really want to see it) that an article about Clinton's sex partners would more valid than a list of Bush's nicknames since Clinton's sex life (rightful or wrongful) did play a role in his presidency.
I really have enjoyed working on this project the last few months, but I do beleive lately it has become a lot more partisan or people trying to work around the npov rules. Smith03 02:33, 2 Oct 2003 (UTC)
I am sorry if I got a little hot under collar
- Don'y worry, it happens to everyone.
I believe both articles should be deleted
- I expect they will be. Ark has said he is going to list the Bush one on VfD.
I am a bit surprised that one was deleted without the vfd.
- I agree -it was out of process deletion meaning you could rightfully undelete it. By the way, if you go to undelete the page, it looks like I deleted it. I didn't, I only deleted the left-behind talk page. AstroNomer deleted the actual page, as shown in the Deletion log.
...written by ( i hope anyway) a respected contributor
- You are, which is why I was advising you against this. I don't want to see that respect lessened or for you quit over it.
...people trying to work around the npov rules
- Yes, but there are more people doing the opposite. Cyan, for example, had the aim of trying to make that page npov. It may not have worked, but the intention was good, as are those of the majority of contributors here. Please don't let a few exceptions put you off Wikipedia.

Hi fellow Minnesotan. Regarding the broken link on our Governor's page, it was there for a short time. I just checked for the image and it is not on the server. I tried to upload another one, but the uploads have been disabled. I know they are working on the server. I'll keep checking and make sure it gets displayed eventulally. -- Fernkes from Edina.
Hey Smith, are you planning on formatting the other bowl pages like the one on Cotton Bowl? I like that format.Ark30inf 01:04, 7 Oct 2003 (UTC)
Not Really, Maybe down the road, If I did it I would just do the generic University of Minnesota 29 University of Arkansas 14 not Minnesota Gophers Arkansas Razorbacks. Right now I kinda of what to just a barebones list of results for the current and past bowl games. and wait on some of smaller ones to see if they adopt new names ie Fort Worth Bowl/ Hawaii Bowl. If you want to format feel free to jump in Smith03 01:07, 7 Oct 2003 (UTC)
University of Minnesota 29 University of Arkansas 14 Ow. You are mean. In any event, if things remain the same, we could have a rematch in the National Championship game this year maybe (we can dream at least until this Saturday).Ark30inf 01:18, 7 Oct 2003 (UTC)
From VfD re: List of nicknames for Hillary Rodham Clinton
I voted to delete the Bush article but since we ( as a community) feel that it is worthy I have to vote to keep this one , it might be small now but you never know it could grow. Look I think all these articles on nickname are stupid and none belong here, but we can not go around and pick some to keep and others to go. If Bush is worthy of one and so is Clinton (Both) or any other public figure. Smith03 22:57, 24 Sep 2003 (UTC)
- The Bush one is also now listed for deletion. In the light of this, do you still stand by your vote to delete it? Angela 19:26, Oct 8, 2003 (UTC)
Thanks. I added this to WP:VFU. I don't know who already undeleted it though. Angela 22:07, Oct 8, 2003 (UTC)
No National Championship game this year between Arkansas and Minnesota as my words from above have come painfully true for both of us. Oh well, here's to a Cubs/Red Sox series.Ark30inf 20:02, 12 Oct 2003 (UTC)
The Auburn thing was painful, but at least I was able to watch the Texas game and see them completely dismantled and humiliated by Oklahoma. That, at least, lessened the pain somewhat.Ark30inf 21:07, 12 Oct 2003 (UTC)
It appears that the community may be on the verge of keeping the Bush list after deleting the Clinton one. If that should be the case there is no honorable explanation for it and I guess I will have to reevaluate.Ark30inf 21:23, 13 Oct 2003 (UTC)
Take a look at George W. Bush. Wiwaxia has added all the derogatory nicknames in article form. Its now a parody of an anti-Bush POV article. I am LMAO. Its too funny to revert. Hopefully The Onion will pick it up. If that article is the first one a reader visits I can imagine their first impression of our encyclopedicness. LOL.
Thanks! I didn't read the rest of the conversation so I didn't get it was a joke - that and the fact I've been awake way too long. :) Angela 01:11, 19 Oct 2003 (BST)
Thanks, I calls them like I sees them. P.S. my Hogs got ripped on a late game call again. This season is going downhill quick. Ark30inf 01:17, 19 Oct 2003 (UTC)
Check out the Racial segregation article. USA Patriot Act criticism of alleged national origin discrimination stuck in a racial segregation article as if that act is somehow comparative with the institutionalized racial segregation and apartheid the article is supposed to be about. The goal these days is to get criticism of George Bush, the Iraq War, and the USA Patriot Act into as many articles as possible. Sticks out almost as bad as it does in J. William Fulbright Ark30inf 07:13, 19 Oct 2003 (UTC)
I saw you recently deleted the "santorum" page and debate. Are these archived anywhere, or gone forever? --zandperl 13:12, 22 Oct 2003 (UTC)
I am leaving the project now. I'm tired of the defensiveness and bickering and POV games playing. Good luck to your Gophers. Ark30inf 04:34, 24 Oct 2003 (UTC)
I wish people would stop leaving. It's getting to be quite upsetting. I hope you do return after a break. I disagree with you that the NPOV bar has been lowered. Perhaps the stress of constantly trying to fight for it has made you feel that way or made you more aware of the problem users who try to avoid it, but NPOV is still one of the defining values of Wikipedia and I don't see that changing. Regarding the nicknames thing ? both were deleted. Do come back soon. Perhaps things will seem better after some time away from here. With sadness, Angela
Hope your ticker is ok after that final field goal.--Ark30inf
In case you check in again sometime. They are re-debating the Santorum thing again. Somebody who doesn't care about the previous consensus undeleted it and rather than just re-delete it they started the whole debate process again. Hopeless and laughable. --Ark30inf
Too bad. Hopefully someone will fork at some point and establish an encyclopedia that is a little less anarchic and that only debates content policy once rather than 500 times a day. I looked around but the only other one is a little odd. If you should spot one that is NPOV but has at least a minimal framework of rules let me know. Cheers. --Ark30inf
It looks like Daniel Quinlan is leaving. The Santorum article appears to have had at least some role in it. --Ark30inf
Hi Smith, I would welcome your views on Adam Carr's proposal to bring tighter controls over editing. Do you think this could help to deal with some of the problems that made you want to quit? Angela. 20:50, 16 Dec 2003 (UTC)
Welcome back. Maximus Rex 01:31, 8 Apr 2004 (UTC)
- Ditto. It's nice to see you've returned. :) Angela. 17:13, Apr 8, 2004 (UTC)
- Very good to see you back, indeed. If you find yourself tempted to go again, I hope you'll let some of us know how we can help make Wikipedia a better place -- maybe help keep it a place you can be comfortable. :-) Jwrosenzweig 23:05, 15 Apr 2004 (UTC)
I am annoyed that you took it upon yourself to relink all references to the Democratic-Nonpartisan League without consulting me first. "Democratic-Nonpartisan League" is the proper name of the organization. "North Dakota" is unnecessary because there are no other Dem-NPLs. "Party" is unnecessary because the word "League" is already in there.
This was an unnecessary set of modifications. --Alexwcovington 06:23, 8 Apr 2004 (UTC)
Hi,. I just wanted to say sorry for blocking you. We have an anon (who signs himself User:Michael) who has been making repeated daily edits using the IPs you were using. I guess we'll just have to keep reverting him. DJ Clayworth 16:46, 24 Apr 2004 (UTC)
ok, sorry 'bout that. wouldn't have but thought it might be abandoned. like you said, one of those bad things about wp... -rj
Greetings, I am of the opinion that defunct teams should maintain entries seperate from the current team that replaced them so that information may be concentrated on the defunct franchise. Thus, I would prefer that you not merge the Vancouver Grizzlies page with the Memphis Grizzlies page. DigiBullet 03:48, 25 Apr 2004 (UTC)
