Smith & Nephew is a British medical devices company headquartered in London and active internationally. It is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index.
Smith & Nephew operates in three market segments:
- Wound management: advanced treatments for difficult wounds.
- Endoscopy: products for minimally invasive surgery.
- Orthopaedics: hip and knee implants and trauma products.
Smith & Nephew's turnover for the year ended 31 December 2004 was £1,248.5 million. Profits were £177.9 million before tax and £125.2 million after tax. By market capitalisation, Smith & Nephew is Europe's second-largest medical equipment firm.
