The stage/production area and covered pavillion will seat 7,533 persons while a beautiful sloping lawn will accomodate another 12,578. Completed in 1988, it is part of the Fair Park complex, which includes museums, an aquarium, gardens, and the cotton bowl football stadium. While the South Dallas site is owned by the City of Dallas, operation of the amphitheatre is contracted to a private leaseholder.

This amphitheatre is a popular venue for music concerts and has offered fans performances from top acts like Widespread Panic, Phish, Tom Petty, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, The Drive By Truckers, Blink-182, Jimmy Buffet, Kiss and The Dave Mathews Band.

Long known as The Starplex Amphitheatre, naming rights to the amphitheatre were sold to the Smirnoff vodka company as a result of a corporate sponsorship agreement with The House of Blues who currently operates the venue. The House of Blues is owned by Live Nation a publicly traded live events company based in Beverly Hills, CA
