SM Megamall

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The SM Megamall is one of the largest shopping malls in the Philippines. Located in the Ortigas Center along the main EDSA thoroughfare in Mandaluyong City, it is owned and operated by the SM Prime Holdings company, under the management of Henry Sy, a Chinese immigrant to the Philippines.

The mall was opened in June 1991, the third SM Supermall, after SM City North EDSA and the SM City Santa Mesa (formerly known as SM Centerpoint). At one point it was ranked third largest by floor area, measuring 331,679 square meters. It also boasts the first ice skating rink in the country.

SM stands for Shoe Mart, a shoe store that has grown since World War II into one of the Philippines' largest department stores and now one of its largest companies called the SM Group of Companies.
