SM North EDSA is currently the 2nd largest shopping mall in the Philippines and is owned and operated by SM Prime Holdings under the management of Henry Sy, a Chinese immigrant to the Philippines.

As the name suggests, the location of the mall is at the intersecion of North Avenue and EDSA, in Quezon City, Metro Manila.

The mall was inaugurated in November 1985, the first mall to opened by SM. It was built on 161,000 square meters of land. It has a gross floor area of 351,800 square meters that spans through 16 levels in 4 different buildings. The mall boasts about hundred retailers, service shops, and dining outlets, while its 12 digital film theatres have a combined seating capacity of 20,000. Its outdoor and indoor parking areas can accommodate about 3,000 cars.

SM North EDSA is the busiest and most populated mall as it is situated where 3 major arteries of Quezon City -- EDSA, North Avenue and West Avenue -- meet. It is the top grosser cinemas and supermarket for many years. The three-storey Main building overlooks this intersection and houses 8 of SMNE's 12 cinemas, a Foodcourt, the SM Department Store and the SM Supermarket. Flanking it are three annexes: to the west is The Annex, north, The Carpark and to the east is Annex 3/The Block.

[edit] Annexes

[edit] The Annex

The Annex houses the SM Bowling Center and, at one time, Cinemas 9-12 (now situated at The Block). Clothing stores and shoe salons occupy most of the floor space, although one can find a handful of restaurants and a couple of video game arcades in the building as well. It is connected to the Main Building by a bridge. Visitors are advised to tread carefully, and if that is not possible, not to come in contact with the metal rail as transference of static charge is highly possible due to the nature of the floor mat.

[edit] The Carpark

As the name suggests, the building serves as a parking area. It can accommodate over 2,500 cars in a 5-storey complex right above the commercial center at The Carpark's first level. In 2002, the first level was renamed Cyberzone and became the mall's electronics and communication hub. It is connected to the Main Building via two bridges at its second floor (first parking level) and to the The Block by a series of bridges at all parking levels including the open-air, fifth level.

[edit] Adjacent Landmarks

Facing competition from the soon-to-be-completed Trinoma Shopping Center across, SM Prime has decided to redevelop and expand SM North EDSA, which includes the construction of the Phlippines' second IMAX theater. As a result, SM North EDSA is poised to become the largest mall in the Philippines.
