slrn is an open source text-based news client. It was originally developed for Unix-like operating systems, but is now available for many other operating systems, including Microsoft Windows.
slrn runs through a textual user interface and is highly customizable. It uses the S-Lang library written by the same author, John E. Davis. The slrn name derives from the use of S-Lang and the basis on another newsreader rn. slrn is currently maintained by Thomas Schultz.
