Slobozia, Moldova

Slobozia (Russian: Slobodzya) is a city in the Republic of Moldova which is the seat of the Administrative Region of Slobozia of Transnistria.

Slobozia is located at 46°44′N 29°42′E, in the southern part of Transnistria, south of its capital Tiraspol. It had a population of 19,000 at the census in 1989. The population of the city is mostly made up of ethnic Moldovans, while Russians and Ukrainians are important minorities.

Its name is from Romanian "slobozie", which meant a recently colonized village which was free of taxation. [1]
