Slammer is a ride at Thorpe Park, Chertsey, England. It is an S&S Power Sky Swat. With Slammer and Catapult (Previously SWAT! At Six Flags AstroWorld, Texas. Moved to Six Flags New England, Agawam, Massachusetts) they are the only rides of their type in the world.
Along with S&S 'Screamin' Swing' Rush, Slammer was the new ride for 2005. It received great reaction from all.
Slammer is counted as a Thrillseekers ride according to Thorpe Park. Many ride reviewers have given it a 5/5 on the extreme scale.
After you have taken your seat on the ride, the over-the-shoulder resistants are pulled down. The ride is then raised up into the sky. Once up, and ride rotates around a pivot, throwing riders upside down and around.
So far the ride has had a positive reaction with the park guests, and is doing very well in this respect. However amongst employees of the park, this ride has become well known for its unreliable and troublesome nature. The ride has suffered long spells of downtime, due to the overly complex weighing system, which checks that the ride is balanced before starting its cycle. On a few isolated occasions the ride has stopped mid-cycle and passengers have been left upside down for upto 40 minutes at a time.
