Skate Guards
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Skates guards are covers fit over skates, so skates do not rust. They also protect the blades from cement or rocks, which damage the skate blade, resulting in uneven skating, rusty, and dull blades. The skate guard is obviously not used when on the ice, as the skates will slip from the plastic onto the ice. They can be taken off easily and is the best ways to maintain good blade condition for a long time and keeps skate strides smooth and fast.
[edit] Types of Skate guards
The most common type of guards is a material-like guard in which a velcro strap is on, which tightens through the hole in the skate keeping the guard on.
The safer type is a plastic-type guard. It fits right on the fits tightly, and can possibly use a strap that is attached from the guard to the skates so the guard to not fall off when walking. It's most common colors are grey and black.
Another type is another material-like guard that has an elastic aroung the the top of the guard to keep the guard on.
However, there are many different skateguars, such as the website listed below that shows many skate guards, but are not official ice hockey guards.
