[edit] Picture copyright

In answer to your question, you already have copyright on the images you took. For the purposes of Wikipedia, what you need to do is to specify the licence under which you will let Wikipedia use the images. I suggest the best licence to use is the GFDL licence ... if you chose to use this, then when you upload the page, put {{GFDL}} in the image summary. Otherwise you could put the image into the public domain but to do this you effectively lose your copyright, and you may not wish to do this The appropriate tag in this case would be {{PD}}. In sum, I recommend that you comment the image "Photo of XXX taken by and copyright Siyavash. {{GFDL}} ".

As you observe, there are many photos on the web, but yes, most are encumbered by copyright issues and so we have a strong preference for people such as you uploading your images, especially when you take the trouble to tag them.

There is a page Wikipedia:Image copyright tags which may help. And somewhere there's a wikipedia picture tutorial. I'll see if I can find it later, but you might track it down from the welcome notes above. I'm away from my computer for about the next 6 hours, but I'll check back then and can give you more advice, and will look at what you've done with any images you have uploaded, to provide feedback.

Finally, if you are releasing your images under the GFDL, then consider putting them here rather than on the english wikipedia. You will need a login for the Commons ... files uploaded onto the commons can be used in all language versions of wikipedia. Hope this helps a little. But get on with uploading and we can discuss licensing tonight. best wishes --Tagishsimon (talk)

  • Thank you very much for your feedback, I am very glad to finally figure out the photograph policies, and they were simpler than I was making them out to be. I'm looking forward to contributing useful things to Wikipedia, thanks again! Siyavash 16:41, 25 July 2005 (UTC)

Hello. I've had a look at a couple of the photos you uploaded, and offer a few comments:
  • They're very good!
  • There's not much wrong with what you've done! But...
  • If you want to link back to your user page, you have to write your name as [[User:Siyavash|Siyavash]]. The first part is the name of the page to which you are trying to link; the second is the anchor - what you want the user to read. See the change I made here.
  • You can also put links into the text you use to describe the image. I did that with another of your images here and if I was not so lazy, would click on Godavari river or Kovvur and learn more.
  • On Bhakti Vaibhava Puri Maharaj you've used a very complicated and unnecessary markup. I have changed it to a simple wikipedia markup, which specifies that it is a thumbnail (means I can specify the size and can have a caption), right (picture is placed to the right), 250px (width in pixels) and a caption. See the [Image:BV Puri Maharaj 082401.jpg difference].
Hope this helps. Keep adding & editing & taking photos - very much appreciated. best wishes --Tagishsimon (talk)

Hey Tagishsimon,

I've just looked at the changes, and everything looks great -- very professional! Thank you very much for taking the time to edit the articles I put. Through your intervention, I learned a lot of things about Wikipedia, and I don't feel like such a newb anymore. Thanks again! :) Sincerely Yours, Siyavash (talk)

And now I've made minor amendments to all of the pages you created. Check out the differences by looking at the History link associated with each page, and comparing the versions. But the main things I changed were:
  • Articles should never start with ==Titles==
  • Use '''name of article''' to embolden the subject of the article in the text you write, not [[name of article]]
  • Only embolden one instance of the name of article in the text.
Umm. And I promise to stop following you around now. They are very good articles, by the way, very high quality. :) --Tagishsimon (talk)

Thanks again :) I hope I can write some new articles, but I am out of ideas. I'll try and idle on the #wikipedia IRC channel!

[edit] Survey of Hindu organisations

hi Siyavash, namaste. I observed your entry on Sri Krishna Chaitanya Mission at Survey of Hindu organisations. Could you please add more details on the movement and make it exhaustive ? You may refer to the other articles that i have placed and the template used. Good to see an entry on Gaudiya Vaishnavism organisation. So far only ISKCON was in the list. Ramashray 04:40, 26 July 2005 (UTC)

Namaste Ramashray,

I have added more information, I hope it is sufficient. :)

[edit] Hinduism

Namaste Siyavash,

the main Hinduism article has degenerated severely these past few months, and a rewrite is being done here. It was once a featured article, but many so-called contributions have made it unreadable. The multiple nature of Hinduism itself, with its innumerable schools and views, make people drop by and add something that, while noteworthy in their opinion, makes the article a huge clumsy elephant. We need a clean, precise, adequate article. The quality of your work is high, so if you can please contribute. The article on Buddhism ia a good example on what to strive for.

Aum shanti, Subramanian talk 20:10, 28 July 2005 (UTC)

Namaste Subramanian,

Thank you so much for your kind words! I am currently on my way out for a few hours, but later tonight I will look at both Hinduism and Buddhism and hopefully I can contribute something nice :)

[edit] Biju Patnaik

Keep up the good work on Biju Patnaik. I would've done an extensive re-write on the article but really didn't have the time or knowledge of the individual to do any justice. --Dysepsion 17:11, 14 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Hinduism in the United States

Can you start a Hinduism in the United States article? I find the Hinduism by country articles one of the most interesting. Especially on countries such as Afghanistan and Indo-china where Hinduism used to be prevelant. --Dangerous-Boy

Thanks for the request :) When I checked out the Hinduism by country article, I was surprised that nobody has done a Hinduism in the United States yet. I may give it a go, but I want to make sure it's a nice article if I do go through with it. :) Siyavash 21:23, 11 September 2005 (UTC)
If you want any more suggestions, these are my requests:

[edit] Mansa succession

To the best of my knowledge, the succession after 1400 is literally unknown, not just unknown to me--the writings stop recording them there, as the Empire loses its power. That's fabulous that Mansa Musa made Civ IV! It's always struck me as bullshit that he's not more famous than he is--he's like world history's best kept secret. =)

Thanks for the help on the mansa articles! Best, --Dvyost 14:43, 9 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] "The Zoroastrianism guy"

The title is in case you don't remember ;-), I'm just checking my talk page after a few months of avoiding it. Thanks for complimenting my page, I'm sometimes self-conscious about it. How is Civilization now? I used to be absolutely addicted to the 2nd version. I can only begin to imagine how much better it is now. Oh well, just returning your message. Khiradtalk 04:55, 25 December 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the message! It was a well made game, Civ IV plus the 1.09 is a pretty stable game, as well. I really don't care for the strategy genre though, so I haven't played this game much after the the release time. :/ Siyavash 14:04, 27 December 2005 (UTC)

Hi Siyavash. Happy Norouz. If you ever need any help, do not hesitate to leave me a message. Best wishes. Amir85 12:04, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] THX 1138

The line about SEN's dialogue being taken from speeches by Richard Nixon was probably taken from the DVD. I own the DVD, and remember hearing George Lucas talk about it in the director's commentary during the scene when THX and SEN are in the white-room/prison.--Geedubber 08:03, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image tagging for Image:Pb ives.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Pb ives.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 19:02, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

I believe I added the proper notation. If more information is needed, kindly inform me. If it is completely improper, then by all means remove it. Siyavash 19:33, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Prison Break "Scan" upload

Hey Siyavash

Well since I live in the United Kingdom, I have to wait slightly longer to view the episodes than the Americans. I wont probably be able to see that episode until Tuesday. If you wanted to upload a different image before then feel free, but I will do it Monday Night/Tuesday Morning if noone else gets round to it. GenestealerUK 16:12, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Accidentally posted on Userpage sorry about that. Think someones bot caught it though. GenestealerUK 16:23, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

No problem :) Thanks for the post, I asked because I have my heart set on a certain image from the previews that I think will be perfect for the episode screen capture. Thanks! Siyavash 16:02, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Sucre -> Car -> Explosion perhaps? I saw this in the preview and wanted to put it up but I couldn't capture a clear enough image. GenestealerUK 18:02, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
That's not what I had in mind, but that would work too, probably. VideoLAN has some nice screen capturing and slow motion features. Siyavash 20:01, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

I've done the page for First Down. I uploaded a preview image whih I think looks good, once again feel free to update the image. I think the tatoo from Scan was an important part of the episode, it may turn out that a photo of T-Bag isn't the most important part of First Down. GenestealerUK 16:19, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the kind message!
At the same time, as much as I like contributing to the Prison Break articles , I don't want to hog it so much, so if you want to contribute this time, definetely go for it. I want to make sure everyone is happy with the screen captures, as well.
Still, if it is indeed up to me next week, and I upload a pic, I'll probably either do a T-Bag screenshot like you did, one of Bellick and Michael duking it out (assuming they do fight), or an action shot of John Abruzzi. Or perhaps something totally different since I've only seen roughly 1-2 minutes of the next episode. Whatever looks best ;) Feel free to critique if you or anyone else thinks that a better screenshot is in order. Siyavash 16:40, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Manhunt screencap

Hi. I just wanted to let you know I replaced the image "Image:Prison Break 201.jpg" on both the List of Prison Break episodes and Manhunt (Prison Break episode) with "Image:Pb_Fox_River_8.jpg" which you also uploaded. I think this image illustrated the content better than the image with T-Bag holding a screwdriver at a doctor's throat. I hope you don't mind. -- Ladida 00:14, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

ETA: Sorry, I just noticed it's actually from "Otis" so I reverted my edits. -- Ladida 00:17, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

Oh wow, no problem, either way, hehehe! Siyavash 00:21, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
I'm really sorry to hassle you again. This time I uploaded another image for "Manhunt" and renamed the T-Bag image. I love your screencaps but the "Manhunt" one just didn't seem fitting. Anyway, great work with the screencaps! -- Ladida 00:58, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
Thanks! I really like contributing to the PB articles and screencaps, but above all, I hope every contribution is for the best. If something is more appropriate, that's definetely best for the articles. Thanks for the kind messages :) Siyavash 01:03, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Prison Break episodes

Hey, Siyavash. Thanks for being civil about my reverts of your various edits. I hate having to remove people's work but no one ever really takes notice of the {{fact}} tags. By the way, nice recap! :) Ladida 05:10, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks! I'll try to cite things more carefully. Siyavash 13:37, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Malian Bios

Greetings my friend. my name is scott aka 4shizzal and have a question to ask about some of the bios you've edited regarding the mansa (emperors) of the Mali Empire. I've found a great new source of information which contradicts some important details in the lives of these men. i've gone ahead and made edits to the pages with the new information and have posted my reference under the "sources" bar. I don't want to start an editing war, and i'm appreciative of your interests in pre-colonial Africa. That is why i'm asking for permision to remove the external link for the Malin bios. I think dyvost put it up first, but he no longer participates in wiki (sadly). I think if you compare the websites, you will find the "Research on the empire of mali in the golden age" a much more vast and well reference article to source than the Mali bios. But regardles, i didn't want to step on any toes. Thank you for your time and please hit me back ASAP. Scott Free 17:35, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Greetings Scott,

I actually do not recall making any significant contributions to Mali Empire related articles, but I did have an interest in it sometime ago. I am in no place to object to any edits of yours, so I wish you good fortune and I hope your edits are a wealth of good information! Siyavash 19:40, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] kendo

Salam,

I havent practised Kendo for long. I used to be Kyokushin when I was in Iran. I made it to first kyu. Ive barely been practising Kendo over a year. I practice both Kendo and ZNKR Federation Iaido at River City Kendo. We're a branch of the Houston Budokan, which itself is a representative of the Chiba clan Honbu based in Osaka.

I dont know of anybody in Kendo in Iran. All Ive seen and heard is that "I ran to Iran and did Kendo" article. We might have a yon-dan or two there. But I would be very interested to meet those fellow Kendokas.

Im planing to do just that, when I visit Iran, hopefully, next summer.

take care :)--Zereshk 04:51, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
