The capital of the Principality was Novhorod-Siverskyi. The first Prince of the Principality was Oleg Svyatoslavych, the grand son of Yaroslav the Wise. Initially, the Principality occupied the territory along the river Snov and along the river Desna in its middle flow. Starting from 1130s, territories along the river Seim with the town of Kursk were annexed. In the end of 12th century, several smaller principalities appeared on the territory of Siverian Principality. Their centres were Putyvl, Kursk and other towns.
