As of the 2005 election, this is now the third most marginal seat in the country. The election count was slightly controversial as the original result gave the seat to the Tories, but a partial recount (of only Tory and Labour votes) resulted in the lead switching to Derek Wyatt for Labour. The Returning Officer denied the Conservatives request for a recount despite the fact that the lead had switched and the majority was a small as 79. The Lib Dem vote was never recounted even though errors in the count meant that it had to be revised twice.
