Sir John Dick-Lauder, 8th Baronet

Sir John Dick Lauder of Fountainhall, 8th Baronet, born 21 April at Relugas, and baptised 5 June 1813 at Edinkillie, Morayshire, Scotland. He died 23 March 1867 at Bournemouth, Hampshire, England. He was a magistrate and Depute-lieutenant of Midlothian. He succeeded his father, Sir Thomas Dick Lauder, 7th Bt., in 1848.

Sir John served for two years in the Portugese liberating army. Joining the Honourable East India Company's Bengal Army, in which he served for twelve years, he was in 1845 a lieutenant and adjutant in their Bundelkund (cavalry) Legion.

Sir John married at St.Cuthbert's, Edinburgh, on 22nd May 1845, Lady Anne (1820-1919), daughter of North Dalrymple of Fordel, 9th Earl of Stair. They had four sons and three daughters. He was succeeded by his eldest son and heir, Sir Thomas North Dick-Lauder, 9th Baronet.
