Sir Edward Knatchbull, 9th Baronet

Sir Edward Knatchbull, 9th Baronet PC (20 December 178124 May 1849) was a British Conservative politician.

The son of Sir Edward Knatchbull, 8th Baronet and Mary Hugessen was educated in Christ Church, Oxford and matriculated in 1800. He was called to Lincoln's Inn in 1803 and succeeded to his father's baronetcy on 21 September 1819. Knatchbull was Member of Parliament (MP) for Kent from 1819 to 1831, and for Kent East from 1833 to 1845. Sworn of the Privy Council in 1834, he was Paymaster of the Forces between 1834 and 1835, and between 1841 and 1845. He died, aged 67, in Mersham Hatch, Kent.

Knatchbull is responsble for the passing of the Workhouse Test Act which altered provision's for poor relief.

Knatchbull has married twice. Firstly he married Annabella Christiana Honywood, daughter of Sir John Honywood, 4th Baronet on 25 August 1806. They had five children:

  • Eleanor Grace Knatchbull (d. 1913)
  • Beatrice Joanna Knatchbull (d. 1932)
  • Mary Dorothea Knatchbull (d. 1838)
  • Sir Norton Joseph Knatchbull, 10th Baronet (1808–1868)

On 24 October 1820, he married secondly Fanny Catherine Knight, daughter of Edward Knight. They had thee children:
