The Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon is an international event held annually in December in the city of Singapore. The marathon attracts participants from all over the world with runners from countries such as Kenya, Tanzania, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Japan, China and other European and Asian countries.

This event carries a money purse of approximately S$30,000 for the winner in the MEN'S OPEN category and a smaller amount for the LADIES' OPEN winner. It is part of the "Greatest Race on Earth", fully sponsored by Standard Chartered Bank[1]. The other three legs of this four-marathon race are the Hong Kong Marathon, the Mumbai Marathon and the Nairobi Marathon.

This event has 3 main categories, namely the Mini-Marathon-10 km, Half-Marathon-21 km and the full marathon. The 5 December 2004 Marathon attracted a record turn-out of over 13,000 runners with approximately 3,000 odd runners taking part in the full marathon category. One third of the total runners took part in the mini-marathon with about 3,000 odd also taking part in the half-marathon.

This race starts early at 6.00 am and it brings runners through the central business district, turning into the Marina South Park, u-turning back to the city before heading to the east coast where runners can feel the cool morning breeze. Full marathoners will make another u-turn at the east coast area before heading back to the central business district. The humid weather makes this a tough race even for the world's elite Kenyan runners.
