Talk:Simplified baseball rules

What else is needed to remove the stub? What is needed to remove the "clean-up"? Steven McCrary 21:59, August 7, 2005 (UTC)
I think it just a matter of clarity. I also think this is a very hard article to write - with knowledge of baseball, it all makes sense, but with slightly less information, it is easy to have it seem like gibberish (jargon). I suggest, if you want to rewrite the entry, that you first struggle to understand cricket via the WP entries on that game. I tried and was clueless. If you can "explain" the rules of baseball, simplified, in such a way that the foreigner might "sort of get it", people will be impressed.
Best of luck to you!

Being a foreigner who has little to no clue about baseball, the following questions popped up while reading through this article -- maybe this will give you an idea about what could be "fixed" in this article...
- You never mention it, but I assume this game is played by exactly two teams?
- In the first paragraph, a 'offensive team' is mentioned. Is this a fixed role (like, the home team is always the defensive one), or do the two teams alternate between offensive and defensive somehow?
- a picture/sketch of the play ground would help a lot when trying to understand your explanations. Maybe not the full one in the regular Baseball article, maybe, just showing the bases, their numbers, how they are arranged etc.
- So a batter becomes a runner and can reach a base, or fail to do so... how exactly can he fail to do so? You only refer to another article for the details, but that's to little and too late, IMO. Instead of just saying that he "fails" to reach the base, say that he has to reach the base before the other team does "something"... from the little I know about this sport, I assume that "something" is not physical tackling like in football, but rather the other team tries to catch the ball and do something with it. OK, maybe the details are too complicated to explain here, but at least you could give the reader a rough idea about the nature of the whole thing?
There are some more bits, but the above where the ones that stumped me the most. I guess I'll go on reading the full Baseball article now, but I wanted to write down this report before my mind gets "tainted" by proper knowledge of the game's rules... by 84.167.57.60 September 12, 2005 Steven McCrary 00:59, 16 September 2005 (UTC)
Thanks, very good suggestions; hope the main article is not too much. Steven McCrary 00:59, 16 September 2005 (UTC)
Being UK I've never managed to fathom baseball - reducing the impact of literature such as peanuts - however this seems the best summary yet.
- When is a "Strike-out"? Is it after 3 failed attemnpts to hit the pitched ball?
- "Ground-out" Is this hitting the ball whilst on the ground or hitting it in the air but so that it strikes the ground after being hit?
