Talk:Simon Gipson
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hey harro, before you decide to just blindly redirect pages, perhaps you should stop blowing your own horn and read the damn papers once in awhile, or perhaps even check out the lovely references they have going here and see how popular Simons opinion is with the press :P
- This article has been listed for deletion. Citing past instances of principal articles being deleted or redirected, I point to J.T. Vallance and Robert Knight. Harro5 06:38, 12 November 2005 (UTC)
- We contend that the above examples are no-where near as significant personalities as Simon is, a quick google study reveals that only the query 'Simon Gipson' returns with the entire front page mentioning him. It is also revealed that he appears to freelance educational research, along with his avant garde approach to education which has seen him feature in newspaper articles on at least 12 seperate occasions, he has also appeared on television multiple times and is renowned in the educational community. We feel that this warrants the establishment of his own, seperate page. Afterall, wikipedia is not paper. 210.49.170.242 11:13, 12 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Published works section
I don't think it goes along with Wikipedia policy to post a series of extracts from copyrighted works written by Gipson. Perhaps it would be best to write a summary paragraph about his position on various issues, using quotes where appropriate, and then just leave a list of links to articles he has written, possibly even in a subpage called List of articles by Simon Gipson. Any thoughts? Harro5 00:10, 16 November 2005 (UTC)
- Point taken about Wikipedia Policy; it would however be feasable to ask Gipson to grant permission for the extracts to be shown here on Wikipedia, what do you think? Otherwise I can see your point and summaries should be written then perhaps in lieu of permission. Beyondcapricorn 11:25, 16 November 2005 (UTC)
- It would probably be OK, but here's my feeling: this article is supposed to be about Gipson and his work. While what he has written is certainly important to this article, I don't think you need chunks of it added in here to make that point. I'd prefer to create a subpage with a list of links to look something like this: (as an example)
List of articles by Simon Gipson
Newspaper Using some columms here, maybe Article title/Publication/Date/Link
List them with links, thus not needing to worry about copyrights. This could still go on the Gipson page, but in my view would be better set out if on a list page. Thoughts? Harro5 20:52, 18 November 2005 (UTC)
