Simple English Wikipedia

The Simple English Wikipedia is an English edition of the Wikipedia encyclopedia, written in Basic English. The site's stated aim is to be useful for children, those learning English as a foreign language, those wanting to know basic information about a topic (not in depth), and to be a basis for translating articles to other Wikipedias.[1]

Most articles are much shorter than their standard Wikipedia counterparts, and typically are not in encyclopedic form, or "wikified" text.

On July 26, 2006, the Simple English Wikipedia reached 10,000 articles. As of December 1, 2006, it has 12,338 articles, 32,324 pages and 6,635 registered users.
