Simonas Daukantas (October 26, 1793 - December 6, 1864) - Lithuanian historian, who wrote several volumes of history about Lithuanians, and Lithuania, the Highlanders (Kalnėnai), and Samogitians) in the Lithuanian language.

Born at Kalviai, near Skuodas he we went to Vilnius, where he studied at the University of Vilnius. Because of the Filomat and Filaret cases, he received his diploma in 1825. After working for a time in Riga, he travelled to St. Petersburg, where he spent most of his time working on the Lithuanian Metrika. In 1850, he returned to Lithuania.

He wrote four major boks:

  • Darbai senųjų lietuvių ir žemaičių (1822);
  • Istorija žemaitiška (1838);
  • Būdas senovės lietuvių, kalnėnų ir žemaičių (1845);
  • Pasakojimas apie veikalus lietuvių tautos senovėje (1850).

It was the first Lithuanian history in the Lithuanian language.
