Siming
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Siming (思明) is on southeastern Xiamen Island and the capital district of Xiamen Municipality, Fujian Province, the People's Republic of China.
[edit] History
The place was made Zhongxin District (中心区) in October 1945. It was renamed to Siming in 1950. In April 1953, the district's government was upgraded from District Bureau (区公所) to People's Government (人民政府). From August 1966 to October 1979, Siming was named Xiangyang (向陽).
[edit] Administration
Before the merge, Siming originally has five street offices (街道办事处):
- Binghai (滨海)
- Siming (思明)
- Wen'an (文安)
- Xiagang (厦港)
- Zhonghua (中华)
The above five are divided into 58 residential committees (居委会), and two villages: Zengcuoan (曾厝埯) and Huangcuo (黄厝). In May 2003, Siming's two neighbouring districts -- Gulangyu Island and the larger Kaiyuan -- were merged into Siming.
Xiagang Street was originally a district in 1950.
