I saw the note about the cordless phone. Issues are the following:

• Cordless phone is large (much larger than, say, a tiny remote control for a fan).
• Battery doesn't last long on a cordless phone (7-10 days standby versus a year or more).
• This is a gift idea; personally I'd use a cordless and put up with the hassle, but for someone else I'd opt for a classier solution with that "cool" factor.
