Silverdale School

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Silverdale Comprehensive School is located in Sheffield in the United Kingdom. It serves approximately one-thousand two-hundred pupils from the local area, from ages eleven to eighteen. It has a good reputation for getting very good results in national and external examinations, but has been criticised in the past for not being so good at the pastoral side of schooling. Recent OFSTED reports have shown an improvement in all areas.

Michael Vaughan, the current England cricket captain, his Irish wife Nichola Shannon (who works for one of Vaughan's favoured charities, the Sheffield Children's Trust), are prominent Silverdale ex-pupils.

[edit] Recent developments

The school has recently received a grant to rebuild the existing school building. This is because the current one is in poor condition and money has to be poured in to keep it usable. It was expected to get underway at the end of the school summer holiday in 2006. Work was late starting, but as of November 30th 2006 it appears to have commenced. The new building will be constructed on the school field and then pupils will move to it; whereupon the old building will be demolished. The school's management have tried to involve the school's pupil council in the design and layout of the finished building.
