Silvano Piovanelli

Silvano Piovanelli, (born February 21, 1924) is the Archbishop Emeritus of Florence, Italy, and a cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.
Born in Ronta di Mugello, he was ordained a priest on 13 July 1947 and on 28 May 1982 was appointed an auxiliary Bishop of Florence by Pope John Paul II and that same day was appointed Titular Bishop of Tubunae in Mauretania. He was appointed Archbishop of Florence on 18 March 1983 and in May 1985 was created Cardinal-Priest of S. Maria delle Grazie a Via Trionfale. Cardinal Piovanelli is also the first Cardinal Protector of this church.
