Silesian Stadium (Polish: Stadion Śląski) is the biggest Polish football (soccer) stadium, situated in Chorzów and Katowice (Metropolis Katowice). It was opened on 22 July 1956 and has hosted crowds of over 120,000 for both football matches and speedway world championships. In 1993 the stadium was designated the official home ground of the Polish national football team. In the 1990's it was converted to an all-seater stadium with a capacity of 48,000. U2 played a concert there on 5 July 2005 for 80 000 people.
