Silat Cekak

Seni Silat Cekak is a Malay art (Seni) of self defence (Silat) which is genuinely original and can be counted upon to preserve life. It is not a style of silat which is ceremonious in nature used for performances at traditional Malay weddings such as Silat Pulut or Silat Pengantin. As such, Silat Cekak does not have any musical accompaniment such as the traditional Malay drum or Gendang and does not perform graceful dance-like movements for public amusement such as Silat Pengantin. In fact, Silat Cekak does not utilize any evading nor side stepping techniques, whether to the left or right, in mortal combat. It deals with hostile aggression head on. Thus, Silat Cekak is a combat oriented art. It is more to defensive-type of silat because it applies 99% defending technique and only 1% attacking technique. This silat does not have any Bunga (Pattern), Langkah Gerak or Kuda-kuda (Guarding Stand). The movements or counter-attacks of this silat is quite unpredictable because it doesn't apply Kuda-kuda in its movements.

Seni Silat Cekak contains original techniques which has never been altered ever since it came into being as a system of self defence. The system consists of hitting and maiming techniques (buah pukulan) as well as a complete array of body and limb locking techniques (buah kuncian) in its arsenal of fighting manouvers. Being complete and unique, this form of silat does not use nor imitate techniques from other systems of self defence be it local or foreign.

Silat Cekak is deeply rooted in the principles of Islam. The fighting techniques used in this system of silat utilizes natural body movements based on a sound state of mind and a peaceful disposition. Furthermore, the teaching of Silat Cekak has been simplified and systematized to facilitate easy learning. In accordance with Islam too, this system of silat emphasizes defence rather than offence to instill a spirit of courage as well as patience. In effect, a violent and aggressive nature is not a part of Seni Silat Cekak . Only under extreme circumstances where life is at stake will the student of Silat Cekak take the offensive and initiate an attack.

Silat Cekak founder is late Ustaz Haji Hanafi Bin Haji Ahmad. He formed Persatuan Seni Silat Cekak Malaysia (PSSCM). Due to many reason some followers separate themselves from Silat Cekak main body and headed their own way in new organization.

Now, YM Tuan Haji Ishak Bin Itam is Head Teacher of Silat Cekak Malaysia and the President of Persatuan Seni Silat Cekak Malaysia (PSSCM). PSSCM is not associated to other form of 'silat cekak' organization in Malaysia. More information about Silat Cekak Malaysia at http://www.silatcekak.org. Currently Silat Cekak is headed by Mr. Md. Radzi Bin Haji Hanafi (4th son of late Ustaz Haji Hanafi) is the Head Teacher of Silat Cekak and the President of Persatuan Seni Silat Cekak Ustaz Hanafi Malaysia. "Sebenar Guru" or the truthful guru is Mr.Md.Radzi bin Haji Hanafi been following all the knowledge and practice founded by his father Ustaz Hanafi Haji Ahmad. Silat Cekak Hanafi is led to the utmost height under the leadership of Mr.Md.Radzi bin Haji Hanafi since the day it was initiated by his father 40 years ago. In 2005, we celebrated 40th anniversary. Today there more than 50,000 practioner in Malaysia itself and soon the knowledge will be expanded throughout South East Asia and the world in near future.
