Signy Hildur Stefansson Eaton

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Signy Hildur Stefansson was the wife of John David Eaton, the grandson of Timothy Eaton and son of Sir John Craig Eaton and Lady Flora McCrea Eaton. John David was the president of Eaton's, the Canadian department store.

Signy was of Icelandic descent, but was raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. John David met Signy while working in Winnipeg at his family's branch store, the two fell in love, and with Lady Eaton's approval, were married at Ardwold, the Eaton Family mansion in Toronto, in 1933. As an Eaton, Signy was quickly thrust into Toronto society, and she and her husband built a large, Bauhaus style mansion in the exclusive Toronto neighborhood of Forest Hill.
