Signal path

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the real world, the singal is everywhere, when designing a complex system, whether it is in the area of data communications, industrial or automotive electronics, medical, or consumer devices, signal path concept is to simplify that design process by offering a signal-path solutions to meet a system’s challenging requirements. Choose from a large range of amplifiers, data converters, and interface products tailored to meet the specifications of a variety of applications. To defines the signal path in terms of the components needed to manage and handle analog signals, and then to convert them into the digital domain (receive), or the need to convert from the digital domain and condition those signals to the analog output (transmit). This is best illustrated by Figure 1. We focused on designing high-performance analog solutions, amplifier, adc, processor (FPAG), interface. The type of applications these products are deployed in is dependent on the creativity of the designer and the system-level problems that need to be solved.

National Semiconductor, the industry's premier analog company, creates high performance analog devices and subsystems. National's leading-edge products include power management circuits, display drivers, audio and operational amplifiers, communication interface products and data conversion solutions. National's key analog markets include wireless handsets, displays and a variety of broad electronics markets, including medical, automotive, industrial, and test and measurement applications. Headquartered in Santa Clara, California, National reported sales of $2.16 billion for its most recent fiscal year.

[edit] Serial Digital Interface and Data Transmission

National's Serial Digital Interface product family provides solutions for high-speed video and serial data transmission design challenges. Typical functions include: serial to parallel conversion, parallel to serial conversion, adaptive cable equalization, line / cable driving, retiming / clock-data separation and switching.

[edit] Clock Conditioners and Timing Devices

National's timing devices include integrated PLLs + VCOs that deliver both high performance and a high degree of integration. This enables design engineers to generate solutions that have a lower bill of materials as well as a smaller circuit footprint.

[edit] Current-Mode Logic Devices (CML)

National's CML solutions provide industry low jitter for error-free transmission across long FR4 traces and low cost cables. The CML portfolio includes multi-gigabit/s buffers, mux-buffers and equalizers that are compliant to PCI Express, SATA, SAS, XAUI, 4G FC and HDMI/DVI Standards.

[edit] ETHERNET.NATIONAL.COM

National offers a broad range of high-performance, low-power, Industrial Connectivity Products, including the new PHYTER (R) Family of 10/100 Tranceivers, offering innovative industry first features, enhanced performance and reliability in commercial, industrial and extreme temperature ranges.

[edit] SCAN and System Test Access

National's SCAN products support real-world IEEE 1149 test solutions, including: IEEE1149.1 (Standard for Boundary Scan Test), IEEE1149.4 (Mixed Signal Test), and IEEE1149.6 (AC Coupled Net Test - in development).

[edit] Mobile I/O Companions

National's mobile I/O companions are aimed to support and relieve the host microcontroller, while providing extremely low power consumption in both operational and standby modes. They integrate functions as Keyscan , I/O expansion and LED drive and are available in very small packages suitable for mobile applications.
