Sigma Alpha Kappa (ΣΑΚ) is a local fraternity at Loyola University New Orleans. Founded on December 10 , 1923, it was the first founded of the Greek Organizations at Loyola University New Orleans. The founders are Harold Winling, Blaise D'Antoni, and F. Edward Hebert, and the charter members are Ewell A. Smith, Albert D. Smith, Louis J. D'Antoni, Joseph R. Domengeaux, Cecil Gibson, Gordon Hebert, Harold Winling, and Leo B. Schwegmann.
One of the most popular social fraternities through the years at Loyola, it maintained a healthy membership until it left campus in 1977. However, with strong support from alumni, it became rechartered again in 2003.
Sigma Alpha Kappa stresses inclusion rather than exclusion, and places the highest importance on academics, athletics, and social graces. Sigma Alpha Kappa also enforces a strict anti-hazing policy. Its colors are royal purple, black, and white, and its flower is the white carnation.
Brothers of SAK are proud of their distinction as one of the most oldest fraternities at Loyola. Many alumni have pursued successful careers in various fields. Some of the gifts that the fraternity has given to the university include a stained glass window in Marquette Hall, exercise equipment for the former Loyola field house, and the famous Loyola letters that sit on the front of the campus on St. Charles Ave.
