The SIG Pro is a series of semi-automatic pistols designed and manufactured by Swiss Arms AG (formerly SIG Arms AG and Sauer & Sohn) and distributed in United States by the SIGARMS. It was the first polymer-framed handgun from either company. It is available in several variants (SP 2009, SP 2022 and SP 2340) and chambered in calibres .40 S&W, 9 mm Parabellum and .357 SIG.
The SIG Pro series of pistols is a joint effort between two famous European arms makers; SIG Arms AG (now Swiss Arms AG) and J. P. Sauer & Sohn of Germany. As with other joint ventures between the two companies these pistols are sometimes referred to as SIG Sauer. It was originally developed as a .40 S&W caliber service pistol with a polymer frame and modular design and was first announced in 1998 as the SIG Pro SP 2340. About one year later, the 9mm version, designated the SP 2009, was introduced and entered production.

[edit] Design
The SIG Pro is a short recoil operated, locked breech pistol. It uses a traditional browning cam-operated locking system. The barrel locks into the slide via enlarged ejection port.
The frame is made from polymer, with detachable grip panels. Grip panels can be easily replaced and are available in several different sizes and shapes.
The modular hammer unit can be installed in traditional DA or DAO versions. There is no manual safety on any of the SIG Pro pistols, instead, they are fitted with a typical SIG-Sauer frame mounted decocker lever and automated firing pin safety.
The overall design is slightly different from earlier SIG-Sauer pistols such as P220 or P226, as there is no separate disassembly lever on the frame and the slide release lever looks quite different.

This is the original pistol as announced in 1998. It has a rounded trigger guard and is chambered for .40 S&W and .357 SIG.

This is the 9 mm Parabellum version announced in 1999, a year after the original.

This SP2022 is the new version of the SP 2009. It is fitted with integral Picatinny rail instead of the proprietary rail of the other models and the front trigger guard is shaped differently to allow a finger hold. It can also can be equipped with detachable silencer and fixed open sights are dovetailed into the slide.

This is a more compact version of the SP 2022 with a 7 mm shorter barrel and overa length and a 10 mm shorter grip. It is only available in 9 mm Parabellum.

The SIG Pro is used by the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), as well as a number of other law enforcement agencies worldwide.
In 2003, French law enforcement agencies (including Gendarmerie and Police Nationale) adopted the SP 2022 to replace Beretta 92G and some older pistols. A total of 250 000 of the SP 2022 have been ordered by France.
The SIG Pro is also used by the Swiss Military Police and in trials for being the future standard Swiss army pistol, replacing the SIG P220.
