sido is the stage name of the Berlin rapper Sigmund Gold (born November 30, 1980), one of the most successful artists of the German record label Aggro Berlin. Sido distinguishes himself by using provocative and aggressive lyrics, and is often seen wearing a silver skull mask.

The name "sido" is an abbreviation that is spelled as "super-intelligentes Drogenopfer" (super intelligent drug victim). However, this is the new interpretation, while originally the origin of the name was "Scheiße in Dein Ohr" (shit [going] into your ears).

In 2004, sido's debut album, "Maske," sold more than 100,000 copies in less than a month. In September of that year, he won a prestigious German music award for "Best Newcomer." The best known song from that album, "Mein Block," describes life in the Märkisches Viertel, a poverty-stricken neighborhood of Berlin.

Sido has recently been the center of a lot of controversy. Most of his personal information is kept secret; not even his original name or birthday are confirmed by official records. Rumors say that his stage creation is fully fictitious; including its alleged background in various criminal acts. Although some of his provocative and aggressive songs have been banned, many fans would rather interpret the lyrics as being satirical on widespread prejudices about the life in "problem districts".
