Sideroxylon (syn. Bumelia Sw.) is a genus of flowering plants of the Sapotaceae family.
In his The World as Will and Representation, Vol. I, ยง 7, Schopenhauer used the word sideroxylon (wood that is like iron) to designate a contradiction or absurdity. It is also used as a name for petrified wood.
